Cool Features Left in or out of 2010

You know it took me weeks to find my way around these ribbons. As a hardcore Office 2003 user, they didn't do me any favors. I am still tripping over features, but time waits for no man. I've stopped mourning my missing menues. I'm over it. But there are a whole bunch of things I wonder why they didn't "fix". OK, maybe they are not broken, but they annoy the heck out of me. They did then and they do now. I don't know why they didn't put some ease of use features in that I take for granted in other programs. I can't create a comprehensive list right now. I don't have the time, but maybe this will spark somebody else to add theirs. Here are a few. I know I'll think of more.

    1. Add a hover mode to the Navigation Pane. When I want to see it, let me move my mouse over it and have it slide out. Let it slide back in when I'm done. I bet I click on that Open/Close button 40 times a day.

    2. The same with other dockable windows like the properties box and the Project Explorer.

    3. While we are at it, let me see BOTH the properties box and the field list at the same time.

    4. Please add a keyboard shortcut for Select All (Ctrl + A) to the SQL window.

    5. Why can't I right click on a column header in the Query window and add or delete columns like I can almost everywhere else.

Please add your own or tell me how to turn on these features. I've been waiting for years to find out.

Number 5 - you can 'cut' the column by right clicking on it, does essentially the same thing, does it not? Also "Delete Columns" is available on the Design Tab in the ribbon.

Know the feeling though, the jump from 03 to 07/10 was annoying.

Ah "cut" works, but there is no insert.

Still thanks, that's one item half way addressed.

Yeah it's up at the top of the design tab, ambiguously labeled "insert column".
    Annoying, but workable for now...

Yeah, I know about that. I'm just a "right click" junkie.

    Here's one I didn't know existed.

F5 will refresh the datasheet view of a query.

    Has this always been true?

Boy, I remember pounding on that F5 key fruitlessly.

I'm glad I know it now.

    Thanks,

    Paul
