Looking For Idea On SCADA Database

Where I work we, like many others, have a SCADA system for viewing our plant. There are about 1600 alarms associated with the entire SCADA system. Some of those alarms are common and easy to fix but others are rare and always seem to happen in the middle of the night when the least amount of ppl are on duty. So, our E&I tech had the idea of creating a database of those alarms that could be searched by the tag name. When the tag name is entered it should have a page associated with it that would give a detailed description of the alarm and what personnel should be notified if it can not be fixed with the on duty staff. So, does anyone have any advice on how I should go about this? I hope I was clear on explaining what it is I need. Thanks to any who have any ideas.

Sounds like a fairly simple project and Access should handle it just fine. Review the 'sticky' thread tutorials at http://forums.aspfree.com/microsoft-access-help-18/ especially the one on Relational Database Principles.

When you have specific issues, post question.
How to attach file: http://www.accessforums.net/showthread.php?t=70301 To provide db: copy, remove confidential data, run compact & repair, zip w/Windows Compression.

If this alarm document is online you could insert a hyperlink field into your Alarm table. Depending on how your document is set up, the end user could simply click to pull up the related page. Much depends on where this is stored and how it was created, but it is something to consider. If they have a manual sitting right next to them this may be unnecesary, but what if they can't find the manual?

Please reply to this thread with any new information or opinions.
