I broke my database when i split it.

    Hi

I just split my database as i was preparing it to test it for multi user usage.

after the split, everything has gone wrong... easiest way to explain my problem would be to list them, so here it goes:

1: the back end just shows tables, its supposed to show forms and reports, not tables, right?

2: The navigation bar is messed up, when im in tables and related views, i have the tables seperated into groups, but everything else (forms, reports, queries) has been moved to "unrelated objects"

3: in both front end and back end i can edit everything, the only difference is one links to the back end.

what have i done wrong? from what i can tell in the wizard, there arent many options you can change when splitting so im not sure how its created so many problems.

any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated .

seems i had some quite bad corruption throughout the database, i think it was caused by the fact that im using a template and the template was created in access '97, so ive had to convert it.

So i manually converted and manually split the database.

now i have a proper BE and FE, so ive fixed problem 3 and problem 1.

Could someone help me out with navigation customization (problem 2 ). Ill elaborate a bit:

I dont want users to be confused when they look on the left and see hundreds of queries, forms, tables, reports etc. I want to know how to just see the forms they need to see. I know how to create a custom group and all that. But i dont want a phone call every 5 minutes from someone saying "ive got loads of crap on the left of my screen that i dont understand and cant find how to get back to what i was looking at" (because they have changed the view type to Object Type for example).

go to the Office button, Access Options, and turn off (uncheck) the 'Use Access Special Keys'. Then, when the DB is opened, you won't see the object lists on the left. But you should also have a specific form that will open automatically when the DB is opened. That too, is in the Access Options.

Not sure why you split the database. I find it slows things down when you do.

thanks a lot . not in the office now, so ill have to try it tomorrow.

i had to, im transferring the back end onto a SQL server and linking with ODBC, so splitting was kinda necessary. Sharing access over WAN isnt easy....

thanks for your reply anyway .
