I Could enter Data, Now I Can't !! ..eh?

I have a custom made database which I use to run my Restaurant.

At the EON (End Of Nights trade) we use it to enter data about how many Covers, Tables, Takeaways, Alcohol sales etc we've done for the night.


I also enter (into a separate form) the Wages details for the night, Who worked, Number of hours, On or Off books etc.
However, ever since I upgraded from XP to Win 7 I can no longer enter any details into the Wages Form.
I can still enter data as per usual on All Other Forms, Except the Wages form.

So, that's it, that's my dilemma, Anyone got any ideas? I'm hoping it's just a setting that needs to be switched on or off ... hmmm. Help Please !!

..oh, I'm using Win7 32bit running Access 2010 32bit, but I have another laptop with Win 8 64bit installed, running same Office, but the problem with the Wages form is identical.
I should mention too that all the previously entered Wages data for all preceding nights trade is still there, you just can't enter anything new, or change the existing Wages data (if you were to go back a page or 2). The white part of the Form (where data is entered) appears UN-populated with anything, except the usual faint grid lines, and the arrows on the end of the "staff name" fields aren't visible either, even when pointing at them.
Wages data can be successfully edited, deleted or Added etc directly within the "Table" associated with this Wages form, but Not on the form itself.

What is the RecordSource of the Wages form? Maybe a picture of that Form in Design view would also be useful. All of this in lieu of posting the actual db stripped of any sensitive data of course.

Hmm...Form/SubForm, I'm wondering why. What is the RecordSource of the "Pay-Wages SubForm" and what do you have in the LinkMaster/ChildFields properties of the SubFormControl?

yer sorry, you've lost me. I don't know all that much about the correct terminology.. what I know is all self taught. So tell me how to strip out most of the vital data and I'll send you a copy of the whole DB... if you like. .... or explain to me where I find the RecordSource, LinkMaster/ChildFields properties.

You can *import* your db into a fresh new db and NOT import the data in the tables. If you click the Options>> button on that 1st page it has that selection. http://www.btabdevelopment.com/ts/impnew

Be sure and Compact and Repair the db and then ZIP it up before attaching to a post.

G'day again, I'm back, sorry but I had to go. Anyways, I managed to strip all the data out of the DB and have it ready to send to you. However I'm not sure what you mean by "Compact" and "Repair" before zipping?

OK, well I read the above link, and I did the Compact and Repair step. I then re-tested to see if this solved my problem.. it didn't.
However, whilst reading and learning a bit and doing some more poking around, I found that the problem was fixed by clicking "Clear Filter from.. Staffperson".
In doing so everything began to work just like normal. I even created several days of pays as a test, and all was fine, perfect, no errors, data stored in tables as per usual etc etc... so all good !!
Then, just to make sure, I closed the DB and re-opened it ... BUGGER !! not only is the problem back, but this time when I go to Click "Clear Filter from.. Staffperson" I can't... it's already off !! ... so hmmm, why did clicking on "Clear Filter from.. Staffperson" fix the problem, but when restarted the problem returns without the "Clear Filter from.. Staffperson" even being active ??
I tried to see if there was anything else obvious, even checked the Pay-Wages sub-form etc etc... but it's got me beat ?

So I'll zip it up and send it to you and see if you can make heads or tails of it.
The steps usually taken in everyday use are:

Open DB, dbl click "PAY WAGES - DATA ENTRY", then click inside "Date" field and use Calendar Icon to select/create Date. Then click at the Far RH end of the top "Staffperson" field and using the drop-down selector, click on a Staffpersons name.
Then do the same for Type, Hours, Rate/hr and Pay Method.
After doing this, I then close the Pay Wages form and dbl Click "DAILY DATA" and proceed to enter all the relevant data for the nights trade.

The "Staffperson" field, which is the field in question, and which is UN-available on a new sheet, (and although it works) is UN-editable on an existing sheet.. has the "Control Source" set as "StaffID" .. and the "Pay Wages" Form itself has its "Record Source" set as "Daily".

I have attached 2 versions of the DB, 1 that has got a sample amount of data, and 1 that's completely empty. I hope this helps. I await with bated breath.

I already tried that, I wrote "... I tried to see if there was anything else obvious, even checked the Pay-Wages sub-form etc etc..." !
In fact, it was the very next thing I did, to try and deselect this Filtering from the sub-form ... it was already "deselected" .. off.
I just checked it again, and sure enough it's still "off" there's nothing else to try regarding that. That is unless I'm looking in the wrong place?

Any other ideas ...ANYONE !!

** This is now getting extremely urgent, and unfortunately there doesn't appear to be anyone in the town I live in that knows anything more than I do about Databases ...grrrrr... I deleted the Filter value on the SubForm and everything worked as I would expect. Maybe I'm not doing what your doing.

OK, I'll try and go through what I've done step by step ...

* using the Zoro's - DB sample.zip above *

I originally went to "PAY WAGES - DATA ENTRY" in the left hand column under "Forms".
On the "PAY WAGES - DATA ENTRY Form" I clicked inside the Date field and created the Date.
I then right-clicked inside the 1st/top Staffperson Field immediately below the Date field.
However the pop-up menu only had 5 choices (Font.., Datasheet.., Unhide Fields, Form Properties, Properties) none of which were of any benefit to solving my problem.

However, I then clicked the back arrow at the very bottom of this Form to go back to the previous record (this previous record already contained the relevant Data as I had imported some sample data into the associated Table for the purpose of testing).

I again right-clicked inside the (now populated) 1st/top Staffperson Field immediately below the Date field. This time the pop-up menu offered 13 choices. I selected the 6th option down which is the "Clear Filter from Staffperson" value in question.
On this occasion it was already "on" and I was able to "de-select" it.

Doing this seemed to fix the problem. Everything worked normally as it should. I entered some data in the way I normally do and all went well.

However when I shut the DB down, and then re-opened it, the problem returned.

I then tried to re-do what I had just done by "de-selecting" the "Clear Filter from Staffperson" value again. Only this time when I went to, it was already ghosted/de-selected.

I then went to the "Pay Wages - Subform" in the left hand column under "Forms".
I thought that maybe because I had cleared this filter value in the "Pay Wages - Data Entry Form" but NOT in the "Subform" was perhaps why the error persisted/returned.
Unfortunately this was not the case, as the "Clear Filter from Staffperson" value in question was already ghosted/de-selected on this form as well.
In fact it seems that regardless of which Form or Subform or Field I right-click on, this "Clear Filter from ...." value is always ghosted and unavailable.

Any other thoughts ?? Surely this IS the problem isolated, it's just a matter of working out WHY it's doing it.. isn't it ?

..also, I don't know if this is relevant or associated with this above problem or not, but I've just discovered that some of the "Text Box Formatting" hasn't "taken".

What I mean is, I noticed that ALL the "Text Entry Boxes" were displaying as flat instead of "Sunken", (Sunken is how they are formatted in the original DB).
However when I went to "Property Sheet/Text Box/Special Effect/Sunken" I found that it was ALREADY set to "Sunken" ?

I then re-selected "Sunken" and switched back to "Form View" to check if it "took" this time... still Not?
I then selected "Property Sheet/Text Box/Special Effect/Shadowed" and again returned to "Form View" to check it.. and this time it worked.

Next thing to try was to change it back to "Sunken" and see what happens.. sure enough, this time it "took" and all was well.. set to "Sunken" & displaying as "Sunken".

So I then checked some of the other Text Boxes, and sure enough I found time and time again that ALL the Text Box/Special Effects are ALREADY set to "Sunken" even though NONE of them are displaying that way ?

So this is another thing I don't get. Why does it not display the way it is set to display until I change it to something else first, and then change it back ?
I can't see how this would necessarily have any connection with the primary problem I have with the "Staffperson filter" .. but maybe you can see a common thread.
