    Split database

    Alright,
This must be a silly question, but isn't the purpose of a split database to separate the front end and the back end? Then why am I still able to see the tables in the navigation pane in the front end even after splitting it? I was thinking if I split it, then the entire table will be in some other location I specified and data will be stored and retrieved from that location. Any thoughts on how to get rid of the table in the front end?

I know that hiding the table is an option, but still an user who knows his way around will be able to manipulate.

What you see in the frontend is a link to the table and you can open that link to view the contents of that table. But the table is actually in the backend.

If you want to hide the tables, right click on them and select HIDE. Then you will probably want to disable the F11 key which opens the navigation pane (unchecking the USE ACCESS SPECIAL KEYS checkbox in the startup options will take care of that). And then you need to use the Disable Bypass Key code so that the database can't be opened with the shift key held down. And also uncheck the Show Navigation Pane option in the startup options as well.

Thanks for the info Bob. But can the users change the values of the table in the front end? And the users can also email the table in the front end right? I will also try all that u want me to do. So is there anyway to disable the standard access features like email table and export table?

Yes, users can change the values in the tables from the frontend. That is the whole purpose around the idea of a frontend is that they can change data so that a bunch of users can be connected using their own copy of the user interface but the data can reside in one locale. If you want to eliminate certain things from the Ribbon, you can set up the Ribbon in the backstage area of Access as there is a place to go modify the existing Ribbons (didn't used to be able to do that in 2007). Or you can create your own and not even have any of the system ones.
