Conditional Formatting Fails

I have a text box called txtVA which has a control source of VA, VA is from a query which returns a boolean.


I am trying to use conditional formating on the text box, txtVA. I've used 'Field Value is equal to No', 'Field Value is not equal to Yes', 'Field Value is equal to -1', Expression Is [txtVA] = No and numerous others . Nothing works, anyone have any suggestions on where I could be going wrong?

I tried:
'Field Value is equal to -1'
'Field Value is equal to 0'
'Field Value is equal to true'
'Field Value is equal to false'
'Field Value is equal to yes'
'Field Value is equal to no'

they all work fine.

did you forget to set the actual formatting, and just set the criteria instead?
