    Resizing data entry window

I'm very new to Access, but I'm trying to figure out how to resize the window where I enter the data. I'm using a template from MS called "nutrition" so that I can monitor my eating/exercise habits.

When I'm in the main window (a page called "today at a glance"), I click on the "food diary" link that pops out a window where I can enter what I've eaten that day.

The problem is that the window is about 1/3 of the screen wide, but I want to make it wider. I want to adjust the columns in the data field so that I can see it all at once, without having to side-scroll.

The little resize-arrows that usually appear at the edge of a window do not appear here, so it seems that whoever designed the template locked them to that width. Is there any way to change this?

    Thanks for any assistance!
    ~Jody

Are you trying to change the size in Design Mode? Are you using Overlapping Windows? Have you Ungrouped the controls yet?

right-click on the titlebar at the top of the form and choose Design View. You will probably then have to say OK and Stop or something to get past a macro error.
Notice the background of the form in Design View looks like a grid... you need to make the grid wider... hover over the right edge of the grid and your cursor will change into a two-headed arrow. Drag to resize the grid.

Close, saving changes. re-try the link.

Thanks to both of you for replying!

RuralGuy, I'm not actually sure about any of those things. This is my very first experience with Access. I had previously been using Excel for this sort of thing, but it started getting complicated because of the limitations of what a spreadsheet is meant to do. I'm hoping to learn more as I go, but I basically just started using this template as I downloaded it right from MS.

LillMcGill, that DID actually work for resizing the window, Thanks! But is there a way to set it so that I can resize it directly without having to go under-the-hood like that? Like how I can resize browser windows, or even the main Access window, where you just grab the edge and pull in the direction you want it to expand?

    Thanks again!

Did you look at the two links I posted in Post #2?

    Hi RuralGuy,

Yes, I've been going through the first one for a bit now, but it's fairly slow-going at the moment because I'm having to familiarize myself with all of the terms and functions and all of that with Access. The template that I'm using seems to have been set to "tabbed documents" which I did change to "overlapping" as the tutorial shows, but it didn't have any effect on the window in question. It did make it so that the main page content was smaller and didn't expand to fit the window.

I'm going through the second one next to see if I can use that to sort it out.

    Thanks!

I think the moving/resizing controls tutorial is about the individual columns. I can actually resize those within the window, but then I have to use the side-scroll bar to see them. What I want is just a little tab on the bottom-right corner of the window where I can click-and-drag to resize the window as I go.

I've attached a couple of screen-caps of what I'm talking about. On the main window I can click-and-drag on the corner to resize the whole window, but on the sub-window (when I click on the "food diary" link) I cannot resize it.
