creating tables based off of creteria

    Hi guys,

totally new here and totally new with access so your patience is appreciated. The question I have is I have the sets of excel files I have linked into access. One of them contains a field called Vehicle Make. I need to have my query recognize how it does it, not sure if i need to create tables for this but I need to essentially separate domestics out from European and Asian makes. What is the best route to do this? Thanks !

You can't alter the design of linked spreadsheets in Access, so you'd either need to alter the sheet design at the source to include a column such as CountryOfOrigin, or create a table that contains this field as well as the others you need. You could then populate this table with a query based on the linked sheet. Sheets usually make poor tables because of the way Excel relates data (in columns instead of rows) so I'm guessing the extra table idea would be the way to go. You probably should post a pic of your linked sheet, or copy/paste it here as a table.
