    file already in use 3045

had an end user call me with a '3045 file already' in use error...

    here's what i know
the project she is working in has (2) linked back-end files (one seldom changes, the other changes frequently, often several times a day)

not previously experienced with the same project and the same linked files...
when she opens the project, there ought to be an active link to both files, however, she is only having an issue with one of the files (the one that seldom changes)
trying to access any of the tables in that linked file a 3045 error occurs (she has tried closing and reopening the project, re-linking the files, and rebooting her PC)

when i try to access that same file either by directly opening it, or linked though a local copy of the same project, i get no error

when i try to access the second file she is linked to (this is the one that frequently changes), i do get the error (3045)
however, when i ask her to close her copy of the application, making her link to the file inactive, i can then access (link to) that file

while i have it open, she can also access it (i know this worked when she reopened the project which was already linked to it; but, i did not check if she could 're-link' to it)
when it was in use in her project, i could then open my copy of the project (that was already linked to that file) and the file is accessible, the link is active

she can also link to a different project (of the frequently changed variety) ...i think (on this my notes are delinquent); but without the link to other 'the seldom changes' file, it does no good

i am stumped. my presumption is that is is some sort of permissions conflict at her PC, NTL, i am stumped.

...ANY and EVERY suggestion will be greatly appreciated in advance,

    mark

    Someone is opening it exclusively?
Can you open straight after she gets her problem?

what is consistent is that i cannot link to a file while she has the file open.

if she closes ACCESS or moves the link to a different file, i can then link to that previous file; she can then, while i still have the file open, move her link to that back to the file without error.
I can close my copy, and then with the link already in place from the previous session, re-open my project, and have an active link to the file.

The more obtrusive issue is that other file (the one that is consistently used, which several people will always concurrently have a link to) she cannot access.
As a work-around, i made an exact copy of that file (named it TDA_Mdb_CopyForWhitney.) For obvious reasons, she will be the only one using it; and has no error in linking to it.
While she has it open, i cannot, just like with the other files change my link to land on that file...

Hope this is clear (-ish?); if not, plz let me know

ALSO as response to the subsequent reply...
this very error has been cited with recent Microsoft builds; however,
her is 365... Current Channel Version 2111, build 14701.20240

listed among the builds to cite the problem is: build 14701.20248 (slightly later) , but not 20240

word on the street is that the error is being caused be MS update that was intended to fix a security bug and inadvertently caused...
and that they (SURPRISE SURPRISE) acknowledge this and have begun to rollout a build to fix the fix.
    fingers crossed

    thnx all for your comments...
