Navigation form - unable to add form to new tab in existing nav form

I have a navigation form all set up with four tabs that work fine.

I want to add a fifth tab - but am unable to drag the form to the tab and get it to appear in the tab frame. No matter how I drag and drop, the form will only set outside the navigation frame.

Everything online says "drag the form to the new tab" and that's what I do. I'm not dragging it into the window area (although I tried that in case It would work; it didn't). I'm dragging the form right onto the tab where it says "add new".

I can't access the nav form data property to type in the form name because the tab is empty.

Do I have to delete and recreate this navigation form from scratch in order to add a new tab?

    Thanks for help.

I think you'll find that most of us don't use navigation forms as they're somewhat limiting. So if I may guess, it's because you're not selecting the tab before you attempt to drag the form on (thinking it behaves like a tab control). I've also read that it's much easier to add a form to a tab while in layout view instead of design view.
    HTH.

    EDIT
    1) I see that I have a nav form in a db that someone posted while looking for help. Turns out that I can just drag a form from the objects pane on to the new tab so I guess my post isn't going to help you.

    2) works if I just select the form from the property sheet Data tab > Navigation Target Name or drag a form on to the Add New tab.

Pleased to report that editing in Layout view was the trick that worked. Thanks so much for that!

I was just reading up on switchboards as an alternative to nav forms. I don't know what limitations exist with nav forms that might come around to bite me one of these days. Knowing my luck, I'll find out shortly when I try my next bright idea (that I haven't thought of yet!)

    thanks again!
    cheers

There is a built in switchboard (which I'd say is ranked the same as nav forms) or you could mean rolling your own, which is what I'd do. Any time I've helped anyone out with the built in version I've found it to be clunky and not worth the extra work.

I'd say the major drawback to nav forms is that while it may appear that you're just switching to another form, in fact you are closing one and opening another. People often post asking why they cannot get a value from one form into another form. The basic answer is because only one form is open. Also, to refer to a control on a form on a nav form is fairly convoluted and many people struggle with that.

    Hi Amy

I would agree with Micron and dispense with Nav Forms & Switchboard Manager.

Best to build your own Form Navigation.
