    MS Access Record-Locking Information (.laccdb)

I feel like this is a dumb question and I should probably know by now, but I am hoping someone can explain the "Access Record Locking Information" file that gets generated when I open my database.

What is it, what is its purpose? why is it generating a visible file instead of a hidden "system" type file.
why sometimes does is seem to generate when I open my database and then go away when I close my database, and other times it just hangs around.
is it ok to delete the file (I keep a very tidy desktop and cant stand the clutter)

    Thanks for the help

For it to be on your desktop. The dB would be on your desktop?

I only have shortcuts on my desktop?

Yes, correct. I always keep my current working copy on my desktop.
I know I should probably keep it in a folder and create a shortcut to my desktop, but it is still very much a work in progress.
so when I start working First "Save As" a backup copy, then "Save as" a "working copy" to start making changes.
its a whole thing, but still just curious about the Record Locking file

See this link for an explanation of lock files https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/off...n...%20More%20

You should really only put shortcuts on your desktop to minimize the amount of data being loaded.. The reason is that any larger files will significantly increase the time taken to load the desktop
