accidentally hit escape key in a form

I know basically nothing about Access other than filling in what I think are called "forms".
The person that created this form recently quit and we have no other support right now.

While filling out the form I accidentally hit the escape key and everything I keyed in was deleted.
Is there a way to get this back and prevent it from happening again? I've done searches to no avail.
I can easily re-enter everything but I'd like to know if there is a way to undo the effects of hitting escape.

I've tried ctrl y and ctrl z but that did nothing.
Any insight to this is greatly appreciated.

    no,
the data was being held in memory, ready to go into the form , so
since they never 'saved' it, Esc erased it all.

Esc is WAY out of the way to prevent accidental pressing. Its shouldn't be a big problem.

I'll clarify. By accidentally I mean I hit escape thinking it would remove the cursor from the field I was in.

"so since they never 'saved' it, Esc erased it all."

There is no "save" on this form. It's as if it is continually saved in real time.
After entering text into the fields I just close it when done and it's saved the way I left it.
I've never been comfortable with that but that's how it works.

If you don't explicitly save the data in a form, the data is saved automatically if you close the form or move to another record.
