Error when opening form with graphs in access runtime mode

I have a KPI form with multiple graphs that shows actual vs target year on year, activities etc. The form can be filter to specific users or date range. Everything is 100%, filters work and graphs update accordingly. But when I open the form in access runtime, it returns and error complaining about the OLE Server. No missing reference, as far as I can see.

I used the chart option on the Form Design menu (3rd picture) and not the Chart option from the Controls menu.

Any ideas?

there can be many errors referencing the OLE server, what is yours?

The modern charts option you used was added in a recent Access 365 update and I believe won't work in earlier versions such as Access 2016 run time or Access 2010 etc.
You'll need to use the older chart types for now with older versions of Access. They will still look the same!

Hi Ajax,
The error I get is "An error occurred while sending data to the OLE server (the application used to create the object)". This could mean many things and I haven't found anything close to resolving it.

The old charts are a bit frustrating when you use anchoring, as the font sizes etc. are difficult the control. And the new ones are much easier to design. Thank you for the reply.

I suspect Ridders is right - plus runtime can't create forms/reports/controls, only modify what already exists - that depends on your code - a graph is made up of many objects but no idea if these are retained when you save the form/report or created as part of the rendering.

It probably depends on what you're used to.
A lot of people find the old charts very hard to use
I found the new charts simpler but more limiting. Fewer chart types and some options no longer available for those chart types

Anyway I just tested my theory - created a report with a modern column chart in Access 365.
Opened the file in A2010 - the report opens fine but the chart control isn't there - its not even shown in design view or listed in the property sheet

So it looks like you have no real choice.

It does explain why MS decided to keep both the old and new methods available on the ribbon

Thank you Ridders. I didn't want to go back to the old charts, but seems like I have no choice. MS might as well just take the new charts off, as there is no use for it in runtime. Maybe someday.

I'm sure they are useful to those only using Office 365 - all part of the MS plan to move everyone onto it.
I'm sticking with 2010 for as long as possible as I hate the 2016/365 interface

Thank you. I just recently changed from 2010 to 365. Now I have some work to do to convert back to the old charts. I have a KPI form and similar management report with plenty charts.

BUT we really did use Key Performance Indicator in teaching ... I obviously am forgetting all I used to know!
