    Table/Query window size too big

This has annoyed me for years and I'm finally taking the time to see if there is a solution. Whenever I open a table or query, the size of the window is always way larger than needed, given the number of columns and rows and their width and height. I constantly have to take a few seconds to resize. It seems to me there ought to be a way for at least the width of the window to automatically size to just a little bit larger than the combined widths of the columns, and similarly for the rows. I looked around but couldn't find a setting or option for this. Does anybody have a solution? Thanks!

I am using overlapping windows, and I want to minimize the area taken up by the various tables and queries that I have open, but not smaller than the combined width of the columns.

    1) learn to read the queries using SQL
    2) buy another screen

I can read SQL, but the oversized window is a problem when looking at query results and not just in Design Mode. The best solution, it it exists, would be to modify the decision making that Access applies when sizing the window for an opened table or query. I already have a second monitor, but that doesn't address the fact that Access is inefficient in determining window sizes.

There is DoCmd.MoveSize which applies to sizing forms, maybe you could put your query on to a form and calculate the correct size each time. Not sure if this is doable however.

The only way that works for me is to open query in design view add a field resize design wwindow down to show everthing, then close and save, reopen query back to design uncheck field just added make sure window is resized close save then it always opens the right size. like you this has bugged me forever

What does this mean? Can you supply more detail on your solution?

It is my solution to the problem at the very top of this thread. How to stop a query opening in a large window that you have to resize. My solution while not pretty works.

I wasn't asking WHAT problem you were addressing, I was asking you to clarify your solution to the problem.

Ok I shall try. Run a query does not fit on screen lots of plain space. So I then select design view of the query, then from the field list above I just select another field to appear in query IT IS AT THIS POINT I RESIZE QUERY WINDOW I then return it to data sheet view and save the query. I then reopen query (it opens correct size now) go back into design view and remove the field I added earlier back to data sheet view and save. Not pretty but it works for me

Mcgregorbart, thank you! I didn't understand your explanation at first, but once I did I tried it and it worked perfectly.

Could you explain it in your words? I still don't understand mcgregorbart. Maybe some helpful images?

Open the query, add any field to the grid, then resize the query window to what you want it to be when you next open it, save/close, then reopen it. It should open with the last size. Then you can delete that field that you added. It just happens to work. Please let me know if this is not clear.
