How To Get My Database Online?

I have a relatively simple ms access database that i use on my pc at home. The problem i have is when im not home i record a bunch of data on paper and then come home to enter it in the database.
I would like my database to be online so i can access it with a mac or android cell phone and enter the data in as I go so i dont have to go home and enter it.
Whats the best way to go about this? Ive seen this sharepoint site but not sure if its going to do what i need. Is there other cheaper ms access hosting? Is ms access hosting all i need? I have no idea what this cloud thing is. Lol. Thanks for any help.

take a look at using Jump Desktop, Teamviewer or similar. Most provide a free service for home users

I use Jump when out and about using my iPhone because it better mimics the touchscreen experience

Ensure you can zoom in to see forms or have a 'small screen' version.

Not a bad option. But can 2 cell phones connect at the same time?

No - but that is not what you said you required. You implied you just wanted to be able to work from home - not using two devices connecting at the same time.

You can look at using sharepoint or azure, but not sure how apple devices would or can connect.

Suggest you be clear about your requirements before investigating, otherwise you are likely to waste time and potentially incur unnecessary cost.

    Good luck with your project

Im just not surr what i need and hoe much it should cost. Do i need this cloud thing? Whats the bare minimum i need or best package? Other companies that offer access hosting will do the same thing as sharepoint?

Subscription based depends on number of users. Negligible for single user and comes with free office apps too. You can download free trial. Check out utube for outlook365 free trial. You can also upload your tables, create relationships and have a functioning on line database literally in less than 10 min.

you are asking questions only you can answer
Im just not surr what i need and hoe much it should cost.
cost is down to you - you need to decide what it is worth to you - if it's worth $10/month then your options are limited, if its $1,000/month the options open out
Do i need this cloud thing?
maybe, maybe not. Based on your original post, you don't need the cloud.
Whats the bare minimum i need or best package?
bare minimum depends on what your minimum requirements are. What is the best package for one organisation is not necessarily the best for another. And you need to think about the future, no point going down a route for a single user solution when you expect in 6 months time to need a solution for 20 users.
Other companies that offer access hosting will do the same thing as sharepoint?
Simplistically no, sharepoint is just one way you can go. It has pluses and minuses over other solutions.

No one can tell you what is best for you. You need to do you own research (or pay someone to do it for you) and understand what the options are, which ones meet your requirements and which ones don't. which ones are within your budget and which ones aren't. You talk about using apple and android devices - apple does not run access (although I believe you can run it through a windows virtual machine, but you will need to buy the OS and office) and I don't think you have a chance with androif, so perhaps you need to be developing in java or some other cross platform language/db.

Thanks all these replies have been pretty helpful. My current hosting for my website has phpmyadmin and mysql support which i think i could make a simple mobile friendly form to enter data when on the road and then import that data into access when i get home. This approach seems cost effective but a bit of a hassel.

But Ajax loose the attitude man. Theres better ways of communicating than being condescending. If i could answer all these questions i wouldnt be asking.

Sorry if I seem condescending. There's a whole raft of possible solutions, if you want more focused answers, provide a more focussed question with more background around your actual requirements and available skillsets

    Good luck with your project

I've looked at this on and off for a while now. I haven't found a 'simple' solution. Saying that, Its not a high priority for me. If you do manage to get anything working let us know!
