    Does it work with Access?

    Hello,

I have a general question about the performance of MS Access.
A part of my master thesis is to create a database. The problem is, I don't really know a lot about that stuff.
The company I'll be working for gave me the requirements they expect from the database:

    A customer / competitor databank.
A database which includes several groups (for each business part).
It should be possible to display different customers from a group and compare them.
The evaluation of the comparison should display some diagrams, for example to show the sales during a year.
Beside the groups, the customers/ competitors should be separated into different classes (A,B,C,D)

Right now the companies is creating excel sheets about their customers and competitor to collect the necessary information.

As an example they gave me this page:
    https://www.management-monitor.de/en/

    My question is:
Is it possible to do that with Access?

    Thank you for your Attention.

Pretty much anything is possible with Access, but be aware access is not excel, and uses completely different principles based on normalisation. Google to find out more but the principle is a) store data only once, b) do not store calculations and c) data is stored vertically. In most cases, Excel does not comply with any of these rules

Ajax got it right but be careful, once you start learning it, its hard to stop. I would suggest these sites-

    http://www.allenbrowne.com/

This is also a great site to understand how to design a RDBMS.

If your completion of your Masters is based on this proposed database, you had better get to work on relational database theory and concepts, database design, normalization, analysis, then some relevant Access tutorials.

In addition to the sites already recommended, here are a few tips and links :

-the database series by Dr. Daniel Soper especially #1,2 and 4. The series of free videos starts here.
-any youtube videos related to relational database and normalization by Dr. Jennifer Widom
    here is one

-the access database series by 599CD (Richard Rost) starts here
    - some business analysis concepts and techniques -- I find the free youtube series by BA-Experts
quite informative and clear - with a little humor. Here is one

    Good luck.
