New here...possible to have a live report or dashboard?

Hi All!



Just wondering if it is possible to create an Access database of customers, but I want a live dashboard or report for upper management to be able to view new customer signups. They would be able to just see the dashboard or report that would be updated with the access data each time they opened it.

Is this possible? I can start doing it, just want to know if it can or has been done. I know Access can do reports, but I wanted a live report.

Does this make sense?

yes it can be done - updating at the time a form/report is opened is normal behaviour.

Not quite sure what you mean by a live report. If you mean refreshes every minute/hour or so once opened you can use the timer event for the form or report.

How is the database being updated? How do the new customer signups occur? Is this a multi-user database? How many customer signups are expected in a day?

yes - there is very little you can't do in Access, I've yet to come across anything that can't be done with a bit of ingenuity, but you has a newbie may struggle until you understand the concepts which is one of the reasons we are here to help - just don't ask open ended and speculative questions. Recommend you get a book on Access or google your question where you will find links like these

Before you get into designing your forms and reports, it is vital you understand the concept of normalisation, failure to do so will result in tears and frustrations as your forms and reports become more and more unmanageable. It is also important to understand that access is not a larger version of excel, it works and treats data in a completely different way - excel data is stored 'wide and short', access stores it 'tall and thin'. Excel is not normalised and access needs to be.

Get a piece of paper and map out your business, it's processes, who and what the db will need to interact with, both now and intentions for the future - and of course the data required, this will form the basis of your tables and relationships.
