    Number field size blank

I am using Access 2016 on Win10. I am unable to change the field size from the default "Long Integer" when I create a field with the Number data type. The Field Size drop down in the design view of a table is blank. If I try to type in a value such as "Double" I get an error that the value is not contained in the Field Size list. Pretty much dead in the water with Access right now so any help would be hugely appreciated.

I tried reinstalling and repairing online and the problem persists. The problem exists in any db I open. I've tried compact and repair.

It has been reported to the Access team. It is suspected that a recent update caused the problem. Not sure what to tell you in the meantime; I haven't heard of a fix.

Thanks pbaldy. It's nice that MS offered to assist for only $499 too!

For the time being I have found a work around (which isn't completely ideal, but can get people moving if they get stuck on this). Simply layout your column headers in an Excel file for your numeric columns, then use the import external data in your database *edit* into a new table. Check the first row has column headers and it will allow you to select the different numeric data types you need. You can they add any additional columns in the table design view (or do it in Excel).

Presumably once they realized it was their bug, they wouldn't charge you...presumably.

Welcome to the site by the way!

Beautiful workaround pibmax. My modification is to Export the table into Excel, then Import it back. Access then offers to select from all Data Types (ie field sizes) in the import.
