Did you try selecting (highlighting) the query, then pressing the delete key or right clicking on the query and selecting Delete?
Steve,
Unable to delete the query in that way for some reason. Starting to think the Form the query seems to be attached to is corrupted in some way.

Is the "Form the query seems to be attached to" closed when you try to delete the query?
Open the form in design view.
Open the properties dialog window.
Click on the data tab.
Ensure the Record Source property for the form is blank.
Delete the query
Have you tried to do a "Compact and Repair", then delete the query?
The query does not have an attached form. Does it have something to do with having to hide it first?
Are you able to delete other objects? Create one then delete as a test.

I have tried compact repair, no luck. Can't delete other forms or queries either. If I open the DB in access 2003, the delete key works but not in access 2013.
Dave, why hijack more than 2 year old thread instead of starting your own? Same question but more recent https://www.accessforums.net/showthread.php?t=73528
