Relating two records from the same table

I have a table that lists all of my contacts, their contact information, demographics, etc. Are there any suggestions for being able to relate multiple records so that I can create "families" of records? Ideally, I would enter the related individuals in the field of one record, and those relationships will show up in that field for the related individuals as well.

I am not sure if this makes sense, but if there is anything i can clarify please let me know, and thanks for any help!
