Using MS Access from a Shared Dropbox Folder

OK I built a real beauty for a client, relatively simple but handy DB for a Client. I always meant it to be the desktop application use like it's supposed to be, but the client ever since has been trying to use it with a couple other people by sharing it in Dropbox. I was super skeptical of that and told them so, but they more or less seemed to be making it work for quite a while.

However now I just uploaded a new copy of the db (which works perfectly on my desktop) to the same shared folder, wipe and replace the previous copy (all the same name), and we now can't edit records (non-updateable recordset) on the bound form.
Downloaded it to my desktop, opened it, now we can.

even though every part of me wants to just tell them "You can't do this from Dropbox - apparently the two things weren't made to be very compatible" - I also have to admit that they were certainly making it work (at least editing records--not adding new ones) for quite a while. Now suddenly the records appear as if they were Locked - but they aren't.

Any ideas??? When I open the .accdb FROM dropbox directly, records are non-updateable. When I download that same dropbox copy to my pc, then open it, all works fine. And this doesn't seem to have always been the case, so I'm wondering what I did - sharing etc? It's in the same folder, and heck, I'm the owner of it...if anyone should be able to edit records, it's me.

I know a little bit less than nothing about dropbox. If I were to take a wild guess, maybe they provided you with a different login to dropbox and your rights do not match with others. Maybe have the client upload the DB to dropbox. I would suggest the client use the computer they normally would, copy and paste a copy on their local machine, then upload the copy to dropbox. Just a wild shot in the dark ...

Thanks, but the only potential advantage of using Dropbox was to reduce the amount of complication on the clients end. If he has to receive it by email and upload it every time I make a new version of the database then it defeats the purpose for me in this situation. I am dealing with the least savvy client. I am actually thinking of trying some creative way of hosting it, like charging them a one time fee of $150 getting a laptop and allowing remote desktop into it with some handy logon script. May sound amateur but it's a lot less than most of the other hosted solutions in cost. And I don't want to build a true Access for the Web db, can't stand the thought of zero code allowed.

If anyone else has any ideas please let me know before I abandon the Dropbox thing.

This likely has to do with permissions. If the permissions on the new file do not include "editable" or similar on Dropbox, then it would be opened as readonly by MS Access.

    Hello

I have a project the same as the project which is described above. my DB is placed in Dropbox and front-end is placed on users desktop. I have used linked table.
    A question :
Can the users use DB in a same time? (I mean multi users)

Actually I want to let only one user to use DB and as long as e.g. user-A with DB works user-B cann't run his front-end, do you think, is it possible?
Or do you have a better idea?

    Regards
