Any way to install 2016 runtime with O365 Business Premium C2R?

So now that O365 business premium doesn't include Access like O365 Small Business Premium did I was forced to upgrade my Access users to E3 which is a fair bit more expensive.



But then I noticed that the 2016 Runtime has been released... Joy!

Until I went to install the runtime on a PC which had business premium installed and got a message that Installer versions and Click-To-Run versions are not compatible on the same system...

Is there any solution to this?
Is there an MSI version that I can install and use with my O365 BP licenses?

For now, I'm using the 2013 runtime while developing in 2016, which works but is a testing nightmare since I have to have a completely different computer running 2013 to test the deployed app.

Why oh Why Microsoft would you think that Business Premium users would not need Access???

Are you using Macros in your app? I do not know that I would recommend developing with 2016, but I do not know that it would be a huge hurdle. You can test what your app looks like in a Run Time environment by changing the extension to accdr.

No macros but yes VBA.

I've been using it as Accdr to simulate, but this is less a question of runtime as it is 2013 vs 2016 since I can't run 2 versions of access on the same computer.

It just seems ridiculous to me that MS took Access away from the business plans in O365 and then made it impossible to even use the 2016 runtime with the "comparable" plan.
So either I run everyone with the 2013 runtime while they have 2016 everything else, or I spend an additional $7.50 per user per month to give them Access.

It would take time for me to spin up a test machine to try and replicate your issue. I can't imagine why you would be unable to install O365 Business Premium and also Access 2016 RT on the same machine. If I saw the message, "Installer versions and Click-To-Run versions", I would suspect that there was a trial version or some other install of Access 2016 on the machine.

Having said that, it can be very confusing when purchasing Office 365 (not that I am a Licensing Professional). Perhaps there is a bug when installing Business Premium that brings an inactive copy of Access onto the machine. I would look in the directories and registry Keys of the Office suite to determine if there are traces of Access anywhere. Like I mentioned, the message seems to indicate there is already a full version install on the machine, not that Business Premium is incompatible with 2016RT.

Interesting. It may be that you are only able to install one Office Suite, either Click to Run or Windows Installer. The link did not specify if you could use both technologies for various components, ie Windows Installer with Access and Click to Install with Word. However, the message does seem to be you need to choose one technology or the other. Meaning there is a conflict with the registry and System Folders.

I would still scour the computer and look for Click to Run versions of Access 2016 on the machine. Maybe try some of the manual uninstall techniques linked to.
