    Auto-populate 1 field based on 2 fields

Is it possible to auto-populate an ID# based on 2 fields, LastName and FirstName? Or can that only be done using 1 field?

    'Auto-populate' requires code.

Names make very poor unique identifiers.

What do you want this 'ID#' to be?

Advise not to use spaces or special characters/punctuation (underscore is exception) in naming convention.

The ID # will be a [probably] 3-digit number assigned to 1 employee, first and last names split into 2 fields. I've got a limited number of names in my tblNames, so making sure that there's not 2 people with the same name isn't a problem. ID #'s are new, and I'd like to not have to look up an ID # every time I'm importing a record. I'd like to auto-populate the ID # field using the FirstName and LastName fields. If possible.

You are importing data that does not have an employee identifier other than name you can use to link to existing employee record?

    Who assigns this 3-digit number?
