    Modify a Co-Workers Access Database

    New to your forum.......

A co-worker who no longer works in this building created an Access Database for tracking industrial (manufacturing) type Work Orders.

I've been asked to use it for another department, and I don't really know what I'm doing.

    I need to modify it.

I watched a series of 12 YouTube videos, but that's directed more toward creating your own.
I need to know how to modify this one to do a simple job of tracking work orders.

I was able to delete a few things, and re-name a few things, but now I am at what I believe is the Navigation Pane.
I have renamed the Icons, but it still doesn't really recognise the new names.

This probably isn't making any sense, but if you think you can steer me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

    Thanks,
    Gary

The first place I look when I try to understand an Access database is the tables and the tables' relationships. Perhaps your best bet is to do some studying on database Normalization, Keys, and Data Types.

To become a database developer - whether it be Access or other - you should look for classes at local colleges or sometimes the commercial tech training outfits...you have found the online tutorials...and then there are text books - - which you'll want to be sure to get the one of the same version of Access. Access is often customized with VBA so the visual programming language if one is going to take it to that level. And lots of practice......

You renamed and deleted things where? By Icons you mean the database objects (tables, queries, forms, reports, modules)? Are you viewing the Navigation Pane in Icon mode?
How to attach file: http://www.accessforums.net/showthread.php?t=70301 To provide db: copy, remove confidential data, run compact & repair, zip w/Windows Compression.

Try to find "Access Bible 2007" on thriftbooks.com. It's a great learning tool and has a CD to follow from beginner to intermediate.
