    PDF Quality

    Hey,

I have noticed when I save my reports as a PDF to send out the quality really drops. This is especially noticeable on any borders or lines I have in the report. It doesn't affect all of them it seems to randomly pick which ones it changes. I have tried saving it as Standard and Minimum Size and nothing seems to help the quality change. The left is what I see in the PDF and the right it what I see in Access. Is there anything I can do so it will save how I see it?

    Thanks

I would expect "Previous Year Group Totals" to be perfectly clear. There are some things I do not add to reports. For instance, I do not add graphics like lines. I expect some items to remain clear, like lines that distinguish groups. However, lines that are added via the tools will not render the same.

It has been many years since I have played around with what works and what does not. What works today may be different than what did not work previously. If it can render as RTF, it will remain sharp. Otherwise, all bets are off.

you get what you pay for. The pdf writer that comes with windows is at the lower end of quality - circa 120dpi

you could try one of the free or cheap pdf printers which can generate better control

or go for the full adobe package which will do print ready pdf suitable for printing - I generate a sales catalogue for a client out of access - lots of lines, shading and images which will print to 600dpi or better, they can just send the file to the printer to print on their machinery, bind etc.

You may also find that the issue is as much to do with screen rendering as anything else - print to a printer and see what the hard copy looks like - even with adobe at 600dpi, looking on the screen will show the occasional thicker line (such as borders) which is not there when actually printed.

I have been using a free version of Nitro PDF. I didn't think to try another software. We have Acrobat Pro the only issue is I have remote in to access it. I will see if I can get it to work. The printed version doesn't look that bad. The only issue is the guys I send the reports do are normally on the road and don't print them out. Thanks.
