Filter problem

Hello all,

I'm having a problem with Access's built-in filter.

Background info: Access Front end, SQL Server Express back end


I'm having a problem with filtering on a combo box when viewing in "Continuous" form.

My combo box has 4 items that I should be able to select from to filter with, however it is only letting me Sort A-Z or Z-A



This problem is only occurring on comboboxes.

Any one have any experience with this?

Is that combobox bound to Yes/No type field? Rats, even a Yes/No should offer list of filter options. Cannot replicate issue. If you want to provide db ...

No it's bound to a table with 4 options, like "Active," "Terminating," "Terminated," "Plan Termination."

And its a SQL back end so providing DB wouldn't help at all right?

It's also a lot of sensitive info....

You would have to make copy and create local tables (just those related to issue) with some data (can be dummy), remove confidential info.

Well that's the thing, I can only replicate the problem when I'm linked up to ODBC tables. If I'm using local tables I don't have the problem at all.

I just tried to replicate the issue with a linked Oracle db and can't.

Sorry, beyond my experience.

UPDATE

I was able to replicate this problem and figure out why this was happening:

When using the combobox wizard, whenever you choose to sort it ascending/descending, you must NOT select a sorting method. If I select a sorting method, I will not have the ability to use the filter options.

Kind of crazy, but I'm able to replicate it and this is the only variable I'm changing that seems to be causing the issue.

So having ORDER BY clause in RowSource sql causes this?

Yes, I'm also finding another reason, If I have a memo field that was exported from access to SQL, if that field is on the form, none of the filters work.

I avoid memo field as much as possible.
