Update values from field in another table

Ok, so I am an Excel whiz, but I haven't used Access in over a decade. I am familar with it now to be able to work with it. I also have Macro experience with Excel.

I have a table with employee data, Table is [Employees]. In importation, for terminated employees, their Term Date did not copy over. I have done a great deal of work since importation, so trying another import is not the best option. I have another table titled [Term Date Updates]. In using Excel terminology, bare with me, I need to essentially perform a Vlookup inside the [Term Date] Field on [Employees] to search for their name on [Term Date Updates], and return the value of [Term Date]. I have researched Update Queries and DLOOKUP, but I am not getting the results I need. It doesn't pull any data.

If this is the best course of action, I need some assistance with this process. If there is another process that I can utilize, feel free and I am open to this.

Notes: This is a local Access database. It is not on a server, just on a mapped network drive. I do already data connections to several Excel spreadsheets.

Also, in the back of my head, Could I just export my entire table, run a vlookup in excel, and reimport the data? Would this break any connections that I currently have setup?

    Thanks!!!!
