search operation creates NEW record in table

I'm working on a new database in ACCESS 2007 and the search form i have created adds a NEW record with the "criteria" I search for every time I run this operation. Could you please tell me how to run the search form/query without creating a new file in the table?
    thanks.

you can't run a search on a bound field or you will get the exact behavior you're encountering. If you are going to run a search on a BOUND form (tied directly to a table or query) you have to provide an UNBOUND search box for your users to type in.
