    Data type message

    Good afternoon all.

    I have two table:

"Year Range" has field "Year List" of data type Text
"Stat" has field "Year" of data type Text also

The data source for the "Year" field is the "Year List" and this data is access via the lookup wizard.

The problem is that on attempting to sort the list in "Year" a popup message appear with the following "Type missed matched" in expression.

I am sure the data types are all text.

for reference the data in "year list" is:

    Year Range Year List 2000-2001 2001-2002 2002-2003 2003-2004 2004-2005 2005-2006 2006-2007 2007-2008 2008-2009 2009-2010 2010-2011 2011-2012 2012-2013 2013-2014 2014-2015

    Can this problem be solved?

You mean Year has a lookup to the [Year List] field? You did this in table? I never build lookups in table: http://access.mvps.org/access/lookupfields.htm

Not sure what you mean by 'sort the list' in "Year". Sorting should not cause a type mismatch error.

Do your tables have autonumber ID fields?

If you want to provide db for analysis, follow instructions at bottom of my post.

Are you sorting table directly or through a query based on it when you get error.
Is all data in Year field are filled.
Db may be needed to more analysis.

Yes, I have a lookup to the [year List] field
Yes, I did it in a table
By sort I mean that in the table I selected the field and click on the sort in ascending order button in the table.
The sorting is not causing the error rather the sorting is not occurring because of the problem
No, none of the tables have autonumbering fields

I would like to sent the attachment but I cannot find the Advance Post editor window. Can you give little more details?

I think since none of the tables have autonumbering fields, it might be creating the sort issue.
You can edit table to add a primary key with auto numbering.
Try that or go to advance and attached sample DB for analysis.
