Don't see anything in visual basic window Database stopped working

My database suddenly stopped working and started giving me error "Microsoft has stopped working" and when I tried to recover database closes by itself. Then I did File>options>Add-ins>Go>Unchecked the Microsoft popup and it started atleast opening.




All my references were gone. So I added references from another copy. However now I realized I don't have anything in Visual basic window. All my forms are gone. I don't see any visual basic for any of my form.


Please help. I did quite a bit of work on the copy and didn't made copy of it.


I have also tried compact and repair couple of times.

I have seen Access crash and delete all code. (rare)
If you do CTL-G and there are no modules ,nor code, then something happend (bad) .
The only fix is restore from a backup.

I don't think error "Microsoft has stopped working" exists - not to quibble; if it really says that exactly perhaps it is a custom message made by an earlier developer - are you the author of this application? ...or modifying someone else's application?

If you mean that error "Microsoft Access has stopped working"; it occasionally happens typically when significant design changes occur before using the 'save' icon such that it becomes confused between objects & object record sources - at least that is my belief and not a formal Microsoft advisory; and to avoid it, just to be safe, I make a point of pressing the 'save' icon when in design mode.... somewhat related to this is the advice from one of the super gurus that one should always turn off the Name Tracking option which defaults to be on. This well intended design feature was guilty of causing corruption.

For the missing VBA; check to see if it is there by going to any Event where nothing shows but you know code was there - and initiate writing code - when the VBA editor opens see if your prior code is there....hopefully it is...then when you close the Event will display that it is populated. I've definitely seen it happen. If it is totally blank then google that topic - as I have seen past Q&A on that issue - and my memory is foggy but I believe not having an up to date version was a past culprit on this so be sure your Office /OS is totally updated...but I'm not sure there is any fix of it in terms of recovering the code - alas....

All I can add is that any & all development environments can get confused and so developers learn to save their work just as an instinct of self preservation - there are also power outages, hardware failures, etc so that pressing that save icon really becomes second nature.
