    Question Quotation/Proposal Database Template

    Hi all,

As an experienced Excelite, I thought that it wouldn't be a problem to do this in Excel. Turns out it's going to be a nightmare so I turn my attention to the power of Access (as a Novice)...

My employer is a solutions company which sells value-added products and services up and down the country (UK). They do not have a 'sales system' in place, nor do they have the gumption to instigate one any time soon. I have taken it upon myself to develop one because the current system (consisting of MS WORD templates and referring to 4-5-600 pricelists and variations) takes a ridiculous amount of time to pull together.

We have a pricelist from our product distributor (RRP, Product Order Code, Description, Discount percentages (x3), Buy Price.
We have our own internal support prices for training, maintenance support and so on.
We have other price lists for products that customers ask for (some frequently used, others not so much)

What I am hoping to do is build a contained system, consisting of a Form (or multiple forms) linking to data sheets with the different pricelists on, that generates a unique quote reference number (Ref,Company,Brief Description,User) and ultimately saves the configuration and spurts out a 'Proposal' (as opposed to a quotation) at the other end, which consists 3 sections:

Section 1 - Summary information (Quote, date, company, contact, their address & contact details), my name, my contact details, valid to date, then an area that you can type a bit of a narrative into summarising the quote and the contents on...
Section 2 - The quote lines themselves in a table (Line#,Product Code,Desctiption,Item Cost,Qty,Qty Unit,Line Total). Then a subtotal at the end followed by any discount lines, the grand total and leasing option underneath, with an area for notes
Section 3 - The standard terms and Conditions (which is now a one-pager - there used to be 3 different T&Cs - I stamped that one out straight away!).

ANY assistance from the community would be greatly appreciated. As I mentioned I am a complete luddite to Access but I know that it can do the job - I just don't know where to start (...or continue... or finish for that matter).

Thanks for sparing the time to read.

    Mike
