Question Is it necessary to make ERD before making a database

I'm writing my essay titled "A simple purchase and sales apllication based access on company xyz"

Is it necessary to make ERD before making a database? Should I make it first in my essay?
or I can directly make the database->table->query->report->switchboard without an ERD.

I'd be really grateful if anybody could help ....

If by ERD you mean set relationships in the Relationships Builder - not required to create database. However, building an ERD is a good planning and design exercise. An Entity Relation Diagram can be written on a napkin if you want.
How to attach file: http://www.accessforums.net/showthread.php?t=70301 To provide db: copy, remove confidential data, run compact & repair, zip w/Windows Compression.

As has been pointed out, it really depends on what you mean by ERD. A data model in database terms is very similar to a blueprint or artist's concept of a building or shopping mall. Could you build a house or a mall without a blueprint? Sure - but would anything fit, or work?
