Report Grouped By First Leter Of a Name

Hi,
I would like to make a report with the following from a query
Name, EmpNo, and Function
I need the report to group the Names by the first letter of name and in the heading only show the first letter for that group.

example:

Name EmpNo Function

A

Andrew 111111 Trainer
Amanda 222222 Floor Manager
Amy 1212121 Fork Lift

B



Ben 21212121 bla bla
Bill 33333333 bla bla
Bob 23232323 bla bla

In your query, create a Calculated field that takes just the first letter of your Name field, i.e.

FirstLetter: Left([NameField],1)

Then, you can use this field on your Report for Grouping purposes.

I had this in the control source

=Left([Name],1)

They Are All the Exact same letter
Any Ideas why it would all be one letter?

What section of the report is that textbox in?

That textbox calc will not help with the grouping.

Do the calc in the report RecordSource as JoeM suggested or create a group with that calc in the report Grouping & Sorting setup.

EDIT: now see your post that says this solved


BTW, Name is a reserved word. Should avoid using reserved words as names.
