Report of just totals

Hi,
i have created a database of samples. I need to create a report that only returns values with a date range. This bit is done.
What i dont want is a list of everyone of those values. I just want the total of failed samples and the total of samples all together.


There are also groups of types of samples. For instance, mass, drum, flush etc. I need a total fo reach of these too.

Tried looking briefly tonight but having difficulty getting my head round it.

Any one know of any really good tutorial sites or help in what i am after?
