    Access 2007 User Latency

I have a 2007 Access database in a shared location on a network. Because the db does not have more than 20 users and I am still making design changes, I have not split it into front and back ends. Everyone seems to have no problems with any delays accessing forms and entering in data except one person. This person has the same permissions as the other users but he is experiencing serious delays. He describes his experience as follows:

"When I go to select something nothing happens. If I happen to repeat that selection between 10-13 seconds later, the system responds. If I miss this 3 second window, nothing happens. Everytime I try to select something, the same thing occurs."

At first I thought this was a machine or network issue, but he received a brand new machine today (same as all other users) and he is accessing the same network as all other users, but he still has the same issues mentioned above.

Any ideas? Where should I go from here?

Suggest you split. Here is how I manage split db. http://forums.aspfree.com/microsoft-...ue-323364.html

    Hi -

There are several things you can do to try to narrow down the problem:

1 - Have that user try to use the database when no one else is in it, and then when there are other users in it. Any difference in performance?
2 - Have that user log in to and use another machine, one that usually works fine. Any issues?
3 - Have another user, who normally has no problems, log in and try to access the database from the machine which is experiencing the problem - slow for that user too?
4 - If possible, connect the problem machine to a different network port, ideally one which you know works without problems. Any difference in performance?

The results of these tests should help determine whether the problem lies with the user's profile, the machine, or the network connection.

    John,

Thanks for the response. I took you advice and tried actions 1-3.

1 - Same performance with and without other users logged in to the database.
2 - No issues when logged into my machine
3 - Same performance issues experienced by other users on that machine
4 - Prohibited from trying this one

So taking those results into consideration, it looks to be a hardware issue. However, the hardware team assures me that his machine, my machine and all other user machines are exactly the same.

The user mentioned that he has another Access database loaded on his machine that he uses frequently and does not experience the delays. Could there be some type of conflict between the two databases?

    Thanks for your help.

    Jamie

The 'other' db is located on user's local C: drive? The 'problem' db is on server? The issue must be with pc/network communication. Bad port? Bad PC? Test No.4 (or in reverse, connect another machine to this user's port) is probably only way to confirm. If IT won't help with this then what good are they? Sometimes IT does not understand the meaning of 'customer service' nor who their 'customers' are.

I agree. I will pursue this avenue further. Thanks for all your suggestions.
