    Linking Dates between Forms

I've set up a customer database which contains my customers details; each time they make a reservation (for holiday accommodation) I create a new record in a separate reservation database and the two are linked by the customer's telephone number.

What I'm trying to do is set something up (sorry I don't have the technical knowledge to know what that "something" is !) which automatically populates the date field in the reservations database with the same date as in the customer database.

Does anyone know what I need to do please ?

    Thanks

Are the 'customer database' and 'reservations database' really two separate 'databases' - or are they two Tables in ONE Access database?

What is the purpose/meaning of the Date field in the Customer table? I can understand the Date field in the reservationsTable - meaning the Date on which the Reservation was made - but I don't see how it applies to the Customer table.

    Thanks for that.

The purpose of the date field in Customer Database is that it shows the date the customer made an enquiry.
The date in Reservations is the date they made a reservation.

Sometimes, guests don't book on the same day they enquire thus it's useful to analyse the time lapsed between an enquiry and a reservation.

Therefore, if the date field in Reservations can have a default value which is the date in Customer Database, that would be great; however, if a guest takes a few days to book, I can then amend that default value to be the date they make their reservation.

    I hope that helps.

What happens if they make several enquiries before booking -- where do you store the data?
Have you considered an Enquiry Table? I don't think it belongs inside CustomerTable --especially if there can be multiple dates.

    Thanks for that.

If a customer makes several enquiries, those enquiries would be for different dates, thus we record the different dates a customer asks about in their customer database record.

Unless there is a serious error with the tables and forms I have set up, I'm quite happy with how they work.

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks

From a table design view you would not have multiple enquiry records within a customer record.

Based on this thread and the other where we have asked for a relationships diagram, the diagram you posted does not show all of the fields. I think it would be best if you could post a copy of your database with any confidential info removed. We don't need your full data, just enough to show the issues and relationships. A few records in each table should suffice.

    Good luck.

I've expanded the table boxes so all fields are shown; I can't show all fields in Reservations 2 as there are so many and it won't fit on the screen but have shown the only relationship between Reservations 2 and Customer Database.

    I hope this helps.
