Switch to Access 2007 and pictures are distorted

I have a report that links to a picture. It displayed great in earlier versions of access, but when I switched to 2007, the pictures are displayed but they look like they are posterized. They print just fine. I use an image frame, zoom size mode and centered. They are fairly substantial jpegs (2 megs), but regardless, it is the change to Access 2007 that caused the problem. Any thoughts?

What do you mean by 'posterized'?

Never mind, Wiki answered the question.

Don't know, did not experience this when I transitioned to 2007, but my images were not anywhere near that large, also they weren't photos. I just experimented with viewing 318kb jpeg photo of a landscape and it displays normal. Maybe you need to resample the images to smaller size.

That is odd. Can you provide the original image and I will test (zip it and attach to post). Have you tried the project from another machine?

I took the original picture with a good point and shoot camera, and it is good quality. I have over 400 portraits and they are all good quality, and all suffer the same fate when 2007 puts them into a report. I experience this on every machine (laptop and desktop) that has Access 2007. This report works very well on all machines with earlier versions of Access, and the pictures look great when they are printed from 2007 version, so it is somewhere between Access 2007 and the monitor. Access must be resampling and adjusting the picture somewhere. On the properties of the image CONTROL SOURCE is blank and PICTURE is None. I link to the pictures which are stored in a separate folder. I use PRESERVE SOURCE IMAGE FORMAT. If I use the CONVERT ALL PICTURES TO BITMAP setting for the general database properties, and convert the picture to a bmp, it still distorts. If no one else is experiencing this, then I guess it is just an irritating quirk I have to live with, but I appreciate the help.

Okay, I created an Image control on an existing form, tested embedded and linked, ran project under 2007. The image displays perfectly.

What do you mean PICTURE property is None? In my testing this property required value in both methods.

Printing is good but monitor display is bad? Next test would be to provide your project and see if I still get the same result. Also, maybe testing the original sized image might have different results (doubtful). If it will zip less than 2mb, can attach to post, same for the project.

Thanks for your effort, and I don't want to take up your time. When yours worked, I wondered if there was some legacy issue with my image box, so I switched using the new version, but I get the same problem. The picture property I have listed as (none) which is their default, because it seems it wants a link to a picture otherwise. If you have something else in your picture property for the image box when you link photos rather than embed, I would appreciate knowing what you have. Short of that, I think I am stuck, and will let you get back to your work. Unfortunately, I can't send the front end of the database code we use. I sincerely appreciate your time.

When I embedded the image the Picture property was the image name. When I linked it was the full path to the image.

I think I've got it. The difference is Print Preview vs. Report view. In Report View, the picture is fine (but it appears as if I have to embed it rather than finding the picture using VBA), but when I switch to Print Preview, it gives me the distorted picture. Thank you. Very interesting.

Oh, oops, I was testing on a form. Hooray! I get the same results on report. Nice to know. Never noticed this before. Images I have on reports are jpg graphic logos and this effect did not present.
