Microsoft Office 2000 a) UserName identification and b) Fonts location

I have a database developed in Access 2007 (with Runtime) that is going to go on to a computer that has Microsoft Office 2000.

For purposes of making my database a trusted location on the Registry, the path to my database for 2007 would have been:

    C:\Documents and Settings\"User whatever the name is"\My Documents\MyFolderName\MyDatabaseName

    FIRST AND SECOND QUESTIONS
In Microsoft 2000, how do I find the computer user name and is that all that would (normally) come between C:\ and My Documents?

    THIRD QUESTION
Where are the fonts located on Microsoft Office 2000? (On Microsoft Office 2007, they are on C:\Program Files\Fonts)

    FOURTH QUESTION

I know how to add a font to Microsoft Office 2007. Can you add a font to the existing fonts of Microsoft Office 2000?

    Thank you for any help.

    Regards
    Owl

The path is not dictated by what version of Office you are running but by what version of Windows you are running. Win XP, Win Vista, Win 7 or some other version?

Whichever version, you should look at the Environ Function for information on the machine, user, etc.

I don't know the answer to the Fonts question. Perhaps someone else will tune in with that answer.

My computer with Win 2K crashed at the end of Nov. But all you would have to do is search for "Arial" in the windows folder. IIRC, in Win2K (like Win XP), the fonts are in C:\Program Files\Windows\Fonts.

You don't add fonts to MS Office. Office, like other programs, relies on Windows to provide (manage) fonts, printers, etc. So install the font in Windows and it will be available to Office.

Thank you for your reply Alan.

What is Environ Function and how can I use it to find the computer username - and is Environ Function available on Office 2000 and/or all of those operating systems you mention?

Thank you for your reply, Steve.

I made a mistake about 2007. It is actually on C:\Windows\Fonts.

Is it not possible that the path could be the same for Office 2000 (as opposed to Windows being in Program Files)?

I have always added my extra fonts in 2007 via Control Panel\Fonts (which is in fact C:\Windows\Fonts) by clicking on Install New Font and then browsing to where I saved the downloaded font.

My question was whether a user can install an additional font in Microsoft 2000. I understand from your answer that that can be done.

Is there an Install Option in Fonts in 2000 and, if not, how do I install it - just copy it there?

(I have just right-clicked on a downloaded font where I stored it (in my Office 2007) and there wasn't an option to install.)

Here is a link to an explanation of Environ. It works equally well in Access as Excel.

Thank you for your reply, Alan. However, the users don't have Access and I don't want to go into any of their personal Excel files (I have nothing to do with any of their Excel files).

Isn't there a simpler way? Like looking in a certain folder? Or is there a guarantee that it would come up with the password request as they start the computer? I don't think it will help to ask any of them, as I don't think they would know what their usernames are.

This may work for you. A bit of work on each computer, but it will give you the desired information. You may have to google for more information if this is not a direction you want to go.

I found this by googling "Finding User Name in Registry." There were many hits.

Thank you for your reply, Alan. However, I tried it on my own computer and I didn't get to my username. On my own computer, having XP, I can see the Username via Control Panel\User Accounts - and which username works on my Trusted Location.

I want to be able make the location of my database on the other computers, a Trusted Location. I don't know what operating systems they have, but they have Office 2000.

Please reply to this thread with any new information or opinions.
