    Exclamation database reconciliation 2003-2010 (help!)

    Good Afternoon,

I am using Access 2010 and I need to reconcile two double-entered databases that were created and entered in Access 2003. If anyone has tried or successfully done this before, I'd appreciate hearing about your experiences-particularly if there are any issues I should anticipate. I know there is a great deal of difference between 2003 and 2010 versions. Is it possible to convert an .mdb to a .accdb? Thanks in advance for the help.

My question to you is why convert them. They will run as .mdb files in AC2010. Do you plan to make any design changes that have functionality in 2010 that you require? If not, let it be.

    Hi Alan,
I'm relatively new to Access in general, and I have been told that it's difficult to open databases created in 2010 in Access 2003. I assumed the reverse would be true as well. Can you recommend any websites that give instructions on database reconciliation? Is this process known by another name? I have an Access 2010 book and I don't see the term "reconciliation" in the index or table of contents. As you can tell by now I am a newbie.
    Best, Isobel

In Access 2010 you can open earlier versions of Access databases as it is backwards compatible. You cannot open a 2010 database with version 2003.

You can create a database in 2010 and save it as an earlier version. When you do this however, there are certain features of 2010 that will not operate in earlier versions. Access will warn you when this happens.
