What is the max number of concurrent users recommended for Access applications(without splitting)

If you could share some opinions along with some real world experience I would appreciate it.

    M$ says 255.....(see link above)

Without splitting, my answer would be 1. I saw corruption with 2 concurrent users of an unsplit application. Actually it was split, since the data was in SQL Server, but the concurrent users repeatedly corrupted the front end they shared.

With splitting, I've heard numbers between 20 and 40 thrown around as the practical maximum. It's highly dependent on what those users are doing. Users editing data would lead to fewer possible, users running reports would lead to the most.

It's been 10-12 years, but as I recall the file would close and not allow them to open it, and it presented some sort of error about corruption. I researched on sites like this one and learned about giving each user a copy of the front end. Haven't had a problem since.
