    opening access file issue

Hi there, new to the forum,

I have a slight problem in my office, we are currently unable to open our sales invoices which are in microsoft access. I am not familiar with access as i never use it but not being able to open this database is hindering my colleagues work quite badly.

the access document icon has a padlock sign on it, when you open it, a window pops up saying: "exampleexample.sheet1.mdb.is not a valid path. make sure the path name is spelled correctly and that you are connected to the server on which the file resdies"

Just a bit of background history, the file is located on our server, which went down a few weeks back. we ended up removing the old windows 2000 OS and replacing it with server 2008.

At first we had the same problem with this file but i believe it was fixed. now it is happening again.

The file can't be opened from any PC on the network and cant even be opened from the server. same error message comes up. i have copied the file to my local HDD and same problem. I dont know if this makes a difference but the error message states it is an MDB file, when i was looking through access and clicked on convert to MDE through tolls and database utilities, it says to me it is already a MDE file, is MDE and MDB the same?

was hoping someone could offer some advise on this please?

    Thanks

The icon indicates your file is an MDE file which does not contain any source code. It appears as though you may have a split application (FrontEnd/BackEnd) and the BackEnd path has been changed because of the server upgrade. Does your company have the MDB of this application? With that file you can change the location of the BackEnd and create another MDE.
