Access capacity

Help please!



I appreciate this forum may not deal with the VB aspect, but how about the Access part?

I use an Access database (Microsoft Office Access 2003 SP3) fronted by a Visual Basic program (Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 (SP6)) on a small local network, and using WindowsXP.

This has worked very well for me for a number of years but I have recently discovered that when new accounts are added or existing accounts updated, the database is sometimes – without warning - losing data from other accounts (not the whole account but just elements like first line of address or phone number).

I now have over 4,500 accounts in the database which has (despite frequent compacting and repairing) grown in size to 5MB.

I should be very much obliged if you could advise on the following

1. Is it possible that the database has exceeded it’s capacity?
2. Would purchasing a later version of Access solve this problem, and would this convert my current database?
3. If so, would I also need to upgrade my Visual Basic, and would this accept / convert my current VB program?
4. Would all of this still run on WindowsXP?

A reliable database is obviously essential to me and your help would be very much appreciated.

Something else is going on with your program. Capacity should not be an issue. I responded simply because I'm doing almost the same thing you are right now with vb6 and access db's as storage. the normal size of an access db that I work with right now is 500MB and we don't have issues.

On a side note though, vb6 is seriously out of date. might want to consider switching to something else. We are soon as well.

But without specifics, that's about the only answer you can get. and Windows is pretty much irrelevant here, as you can run petty much anything on it.

Thanks, Adam. I probably don't have to worry about Access then. I'll check through the latest code changes to the VB and probably (hopefully!) find the cause there. Thanks once again
