Question linking fields within a form-IF statements or subforms?!

    Hi,

I have 2 tables 'contact details' and 'SSA Issues and Options' which are linked through a select query with a one to many relationship. I then have a form which is sourced from the query. What i need to do is.....

In my form there is a field titled 'document' and 2 fields titled 'topic' and 'comment relates to'. I need to be able to choose a particular document from the drop down menu in the 'document' field and subsequently for only certain options to be available from the drop down menu in the other 2 fields. Is this possible? And if so how do i do it?

    Thanks,

    Lauren.

    Typically in a 1:M, you have a Form (1) and subform (M).

If you use combos to make drop down lists and if those drop down lists are dependent (that is select a choice in combo1, and that constrains the options available in combo2) then you are dealing with Cascading Combo boxes.

You can research that via Google.

Thanks. I have looked up cascading combos and looked at the tutorials you posted on earlier messages http://www.datapigtechnologies.com/f...combobox1.html but the problem i have is when i follow the tutorial and create a cascading combo box the 'document' field says unbound in the design view of my form and the normal view brings up numbers rather than the options i have listed in my table as a value list for the drop down options and i dont know why? SO in my table the document field says display control: combo box, row source type: value list and then row source lists the values i want to appear.

I am fairly new to Access and although i know the basics i have never done anything like this before. Also i dont currently have a subform so do i need to create one?

    Thanks for your help!

If you try to create new form, and place a combo box on the form. The wizard "combo wizard or something like that" will take you through a set of steps. You will have the option of using a table as the source of the combo.

    Try it, and post back.

If you have a 2003 mdb and want to post it, I'd be glad to take a look. If you do attach an mdb you should remove any confidential data.
