Access 365 with Windows Common Controls

    Hello.

I'm looking for your collective wisdom, if you can relate to my scenario.

    The following situation:
    - Windows Server 2025 64-bit (Terminal Server)
    - Access application ported to Office 365 / Access 365 32-bit (currently still a full version)
    - MSComCtl.ocx, specifically TreeView, is integrated (in many program locations).

    Scenario 1:
User A creates an accde file, which runs smoothly for User A, including TreeView. User B uses the accde file created by User A, and TreeView causes the error "There is no object in this control."

Both users have the same permissions, and Trusted Locations are set correctly for both users.

    Scenario 2:
Identical second server, User A creates an accde file there. This is uploaded to the aforementioned terminal server. User A starts the accde file. Now, I immediately get a message saying that a function cannot be found. Usually, it's an incorrect reference or file, or something similar, but everything is correct.

Does anyone have experience with distributing Access 365 applications to customers or to other computers? Is there anything special I need to consider that wasn't there before? Or am I doing something wrong? Or is this Office 365-specific? Do I need to set any special permissions? Or enter something in the manifest file? I'm slowly running out of ideas.

I've been avoiding 365 so far, but what I've just described just confirms why it was the better approach. Unfortunately, we're now forced to switch...

Note: The application has been working the same way with TreeView for over 20 years, and so far, all ports have caused NO problems. Our current live system (Windows Server 2016 and Office 2019 with Access 2019 Runtime) also works without issues. And before anyone asks: Due to the upcoming end of support and IT requirements, we (unfortunately) have to switch soon...

Thank you in advance for any ideas that help solve the problem.

I have a client who now uses 365 64bit across around 20 users without issue. A couple of years ago they were 32bit and as new devices were added they mistakenly started installing 64bit which caused some issues. They made the decision to upgrade everyone to 64bit. So just a check that the second user has the right bitness

however they don’t use a treeview control so I can’t comment on that- but I would check it is recognised by the second user.

since they have full versions, suggest supply a .accdb and work through the code on the other users machine to determine the issue

Which other machine? You know what Terminal Server is and how it works?

BTW: There is no code that doesnt work, there is a control (Windows Common Controls SP6) that throw the error message as written in my first post.

LOL?? That's a great way to encourage support. I had a suggestion based on my experience with developing in a TS environment but I don't think I want to be mocked. Good luck.

Read my post and the description of the problem. Then read the answer of CJ_London "however they don’t use a treeview control so I can’t comment on that" - he know nothing about the problem but have solutions for problems not asked for. Is there any reason I shouldnt laugh? Thats absolutly my kind of humor...

yes - otherwise I wouldn’t have tried to help - been using them off and on for 25 or so years. So perhaps I should have used the word profile rather than machine. Either way, I’ll leave you to your problem

Sure, go right ahead. A smart person who's looking for help would keep that to themselves. There's a saying about biting the hand that feeds you. The same premise applies to how you treat people who are trying to help. Hang in there, because I'm sure that we have a member or two that will put the satisfaction of solving your problem before anything else.

CJ, you know what they say about the "last laugh".
