1) if you see ldb file, then Access has opened. If it's not obvious, go to Task manager to check (ctrl+shft+esc windows 10) and look at the running processes and applications.
2) Shift+open can stop code/autoexec macro or startup form from loading/executing. If none of those conditions exist then it will have no effect. It is also possible to disable/enable the ability to use shift-open option.

What I have found: in Task manager it is possible to end access, and by this to remove ldb file.1) if you see ldb file, then Access has opened. Also I have found that if the tables are not visible in open database, one can press F11 to show navigation pane.
