    suppress request for a parameter

    (this may be an ass-backwards kind of thing, unfortunately, I'm unable to think of a way around it.... =:- (



    an update to my front end includes a report, which has a field that may not yet have been updated (added) in the back end file (for the most part it's not a problem, but I have experienced in the past that one oddball condition -and as expected, it will most certainly be attached to a very LOUD voice...)

    of consequence, when the report runs, and the field is missing from the data... a parameter prompt appears...
    rather than instructing: "oh, just keep hitting enter till it goes away...", is it possible to simply suppress the warning?

    The whole point of adding parameters is to prompt for an input.
    So if you don't want the prompt, remove the parameter.

    I am confused.

    If the field is in the table but simply does not have a value, that should not trigger a prompt.

    If the field does not exist then why is it included in the report design?

    This is a case where updates to the front and rear end MDb are momentarily out of sink... (with the former leading in front of the latter)

    The parameter (field) is in the report because the vast majority of users do have that field in their back-end table, and eventually all will have it and it is necessary information ...part of the ever EVOLVING world we live in...).

    A few however, because of conflicts, have not yet had their back end updated (and the key word is "yet" ....they will, but not "yet"....) and of consequence, the field does not exist -even though they have started using the most current front end (with the report in discussion).

    (they have not had the update because it has not been possible to get an exclusive use of the file to do so; they will, but.....)

    Why do users have different backends?

    If you do edits 'out of sync' then suffer the consequences. Only fix is to either remove field from report design or add field to backend design.
