access doesnt display data

Hello Guys
I am new to access.
I have a table called dielist.accdb ( which i am going to try to attach)

When i click to open it appears in the nav. pane on the left - but no data is displaying??

any one suggest what i am doing wrong?

Quite correct
the lefthand pane shows "tables"> DIELIST and when I open in datatable view there is not data records shown.
If I change to design view all the field names are shown correctly
If I open the table with Excel - the spreadsheet has all the fields and all the fields have data.
I have been trying to figure out about queries so I suspect that I may somehow have put some filter in?

Is your data actually in a .ACCDB database or is it an Excel Spreadsheet? This is not clear...

If a spreadsheet, did you attempted to import the data into the table DIELIST? If so, how did you try it?

When editing a message in the Advanced pane, at the top is an icon with a paperclip over a piece of paper - click that to upload a file. The file must be in a compressed format - using WinZIP.

Another possibility is you have filtered the table and saved it with the filter still in place.

Open the table in design view and open the property sheet on the ribbon. Check whether there is a filter in place in the filter property and whether the filter on load property has also been ticked.

Alternatively when the table is opened normally, check whether the 'filtered' option at the bottom and the 'toggle filter' on the ribbon are highlighted. If so, click to remove the filter.

I have uploaded a file called Junk1.zip which is what i am struggling with
The data table is called junk1.accdb . it originates as follows. A .dbf file called junk1.dbf was imported
into excel and saved as junk1.xls. junk1.xls was imported into assess as junk1.accdb
Please try and see if you are able to get the records to display in the datasheet view.

I am wondering if my access is perhaps corrupted.
Is there an option in access to reset all defaults? If so how ? maybe i have corrupted
something ( I mean in this table I know I have corrupted many things totally unconnected
with computers!! )

I can see 19 records in a table called "Junk1"

Yes that is right- Have all the rows got data?
If you select datasheet view do you see a full screen showing all the fields with data in each cell?

There is no entry in the filter property in the property sheet of the design view and I also notice that the
whole section "sort and filter" in the ribbon is greyed out?

I asm beginning to think that I should reinstal access??
what are the risks in doing this?
I havent googled the procedure yet but i could try control panel- programs-
find access and select an appropriate option ( repair or reinstall or remove (
then reinstall again?

The sort and filter will be grayed out if the table is not opened.
What happens when you double click (or right click and choose OPEN) on Junk1 in the Navigation Pane? You should get a datasheet view showing all the records.

Now we are getting somewhere
I did that and find part of the problem !
The reason why I am not seeing any data is because the field width is 330,441 ! if i change
field width to 20 it is fine-- but all the fields are this ridiculous length??
How did I do That?

Now i can see what has happened but i dont know how to rectify the problem.

The object of the exercise is to get an existing .dbf file converted to a.accdb table

This is what i Did opened excel and load the .dbf file which excel does very graciously.
Then save this file to excel.xls. ( excel then adds an extension .xlsx - so i land up with
Myfile.xls.xlsx. )
Close excel and open access < new table <call new table myfile.accdb<
select external data from the ribbon < excel file < myfile.xls.xlsx < open < import into
current database < select all defaults in the next few menus < when finished close
A new table called myfile is created in the navigation panel.
Now close access and reopen again < select myfile from navig pane and show in datatable view.
Now only the first field appears and if you rt click on the top row fieldwidth (column width in the next window)
has a width of 3304111.
change this width to say"10" and i see that all the other fields are there and have the same problem??

That's a weird one, but I don't have any experience importing dbf data. If you select all columns in the sheet and double click on a column border, all the columns are supposed to jump to the width required to show the data visible on the screen at that point (I don't think the effect propagates throughout all the rows, just the visible ones). What happens if you do this for all visible rows in blocks? Maybe each column contains hidden characters in one or more rows, in which case sizing the columns in visible row chunks might show you where the issue is. Aside from that, hopefully someone knows something about this anomaly, because all I can think of is a written procedure to resize the table columns. Or you can select the first column, hold Shift and > and quickly select all columns then right click and choose 'Best Fit' to fix the table.
