    Drop-Down List Question

I have a table with two fields that are filled by making a selection from a drop-down list. The first multiple choice field has three choices and the second has nine.

I have a form based on the same table:
    • The first drop-down list isn't working. All three choices are showing up in the box on the form and I don't seem to be able to choose one.
    • The second one shows a blank field with a drop-down arrow on the right, and that one works fine.

    What am I doing wrong?

You're not using Lookup Fields are you? http://access.mvps.org/access/lookupfields.htm

I have two tables... Status (with 3 choices listed) and Type (with 9 choices)

I have a "STATUS" field and a "TYPE" field in my database.
Both are filled by picking from a drop-down list (combobox).
Both are set up the same
In the TABLE, they both work fine.
When I create a FORM, to make data entry easier, the STATUS field shows all three choices in the box and I can't seem to pick any of them. The TYPE field works like I expect it to.

What you're telling me is "Don't do this" ?

ComboBoxes on forms are just fine. They will work just as you would like them to. ComboBoxes in a table (Lookup Fields) can be a challenge and constantly give you grief. The ComboBox Wizard can set up a ComboBox on your form with no effort. BTW. "Type" is a reserved word and should not be used. http://www.allenbrowne.com/AppIssueBadWord.html

"TYPE" should not be used as a Column Heading of as the name of a Table? ... Or both?

The TYPE field was a combobox but STATUS wasn't. I set up the STATUS field in the table exactly like the TYPE field, but it still was screwed up on the form. I deleted the form and recreated it and then both fields on the form worked as I expected them to.

    Thank you for your help.

You should avoid using any reserved word for *any* object. Glad to hear everything is now functioning as you wanted Janice.
