Wanting to create a simple database.

Hi Everyone
I was wondering if you could help me......I took Microsoft Access in college but in my current job I do not have to use it. Like the old saying use it or lose it.......well I lost it so I was wondering if everyone could help me get back on track.

I like to create two simple databases.


1.One to track maintenance of carts.
2. To track what task a person is train to do.

The maintenance of carts I like to have a ID or number which is on the cart, items that need fixed like wheels, glass, seal, etc. After cart is fixed I would enter the information then I would be able to pull up and print what carts had what done on them and date done.

Second I like to have a person database that keep track of what the person is trained for. Otherwise if someone is proficient in this task when can say yes. I like to be able to put the information in and print out what task the person is trained to do.

Problem I used to know how this but I have forgot some things.

Can someone help me get back in track with how many tables I would need and the relationship between tables.

Both of these type databases have been subject of numerous threads. Have you searched?

Suggest you go back to basics, for starters review this tutorial site http://www.rogersaccesslibrary.com/

Identify data entities and relationships. When you have a schema designed, post it for analysis.

For the first db I would do something like
tblCart

ProblemWithCartsFK
DescriptionOfFix
FixDate

I'd do a table for carts with a link to table of items to be fixed. Probably also link another table of repairs completed and link it to carts as well.
If the people are the ones that will repair the carts you could link them in also.
Another table of people linked to a table of skills/classes. link through a connecting table for date completed.
Do the suggested Searches to see how to implement that.

Below are what I have got .
Carts database I what to create a report that when carts are fixed it keeps data that is running with what was fixed, by who, date fixed. I do not need a lot of people that are qualified to fix carts as I can just put their initial in. I want to be able to sort carts by when fixed, by problem, by year, and how many carts need glass, wheels etc or how many carts were fixed that year by problem. I going to have to go into problem table and create when like glass,latches,seal,wheels need fix all at once........... Can anyone have any ideas on creating a report or form.........

On the students database I want trying to redo the template Microsoft has. I would like to have on the form beside students name, phone etc, add a task which when a student does a task and gets proficient I can put done the date trained date proficient. Problems is they could be like 40 task and I have not figured out how on this form to be able to bring up several task and be able to send this information out on a report to saying what student is trained, the date, and date become proficient. Also on the form if he or she did orientation.
I like to add a student work schedule in which when you print it will give the hours of the day the student work. I like to be able to able to print all the students together to show what hours each student work and what day.
Another thing would be nice is a student calendar....
I like to be able to separate what student is proficient in what task, maybe a one click it e-mail all the students.......
I think if someone got me in the right direction and started I can finish it. Just I have not touch Access for over 10 years so I lost my touch.....Again thanks so much.

Need a related table of tasks associated with each student. Use a subform for data entry/edit of student's tasks.
