Split Database with Some Data Already Present, Add Switchboard for New Entries

Is it possible to take a database that already has data that has been imported into it for 2017 and split that database to distribute a front end to other employees so that they may add records to it?

Is it possible to add a switchboard so that you have a button to add new records and a button to search existing records?

And if so, do you create the switchboard before or after you split the database? And how?

    Many thanks in advance!

    Yes.

    Yes.

Either. If by 'Switchboard' you mean the Switchboard Manager, you can add Switchboard Manager to the Quick Access toolbar or the ribbon. Right Click anywhere on the ribbon and choose Customize QAT or Customize Ribbon. From the dropdown on the left hand side, chose All Commands. Scroll down to the S's and you'll find switchboard Manager. Click the add button.

My 2 cents - don't like and never used Switchboard wizard. There is a reason MS pushed this wizard into the background and makes it hard to find (used to be right up front on the Create tab in Forms group - just not a friendly animal for development.

Otherwise use Navigation form (also don't like and never used) or just build normal forms with buttons.
How to attach file: http://www.accessforums.net/showthread.php?t=70301 To provide db: copy, remove confidential data, run compact & repair, zip w/Windows Compression.

Here is how I would do it is it was my project:

    1) Create the back end database with the tables

    2) create the App (front end ) database.

As soon as possible start testing. This would include deployment and end user testing.

Only after the application is stable and you have a deployment process would I import the data into a new "clean" copy of back end. This new back end with the imported data is ready for production use.
